She was born in Burlington, NC on April 29, 1922 to the late Jesse Hughes and Flora Andrews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Rev. Thomas Baird; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Adrian (Snookie) Baird of Glendale, CA and Timothy Baird of Monovia, CA; daughter, Cynthia (Grier) Reno of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Vallie Wagnor of Graham, NC; grandsons, Brian Reno, Andrew Reno and Rob Baird; granddaughter, Heather Parker and 11 great-grandchildren.
After attending Carson-Newman College, Ann attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where she met and married her husband, Tom Baird. Together, they pastored a few churches in Texas. Then they answered the call to go to the Northwest to start churches in Seattle. Tom and Ann also worked with missionary churches in Oregon and Idaho. In 1969, the family came to Roanoke, VA to run the Baptist Neighborhood House, a community Faith-based outreach center. They retired in Salem, VA in 1980 and in 1992 Ann came to Virginia Beach to help her daughter, Cindy, run a day care for 20 years. She loved children and family. Her faith and church were very important to her.
A visitation will be held at Smith and Williams Funeral Home at 4889 Princess Anne Rd., VA Beach, VA 23462 on Thursday, February 18 from 6-8pm. The funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Norfolk on Friday, February 19 at 1:00pm and available via livestream at www.firstnorfolk.org or Facebook.com/firstnorfolk. The burial will be on Saturday, February 20 at 2pm at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, VA. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be given to Mission Ministry at the First Baptist Church of Norfolk.
