Hearing about the passing of big Mike a little late hurts very much. I got to spend most of my childhood with my uncle kev and his family including his father Mike. If I could say anything or share, it would have to  be remembering all the times around their house he was always happy and smiling like the photo they have shared of him. If it wasn’t for him and his family I’m sure I wouldn’t be the man I am today and into being outdoors or really having any real hobbies. Mike was always Santa for us, and whenever we were over we always knew we could find Mike in the back yard doing something, whether it was just sitting on the back step drinking a beer or “cleaning” up his stuff which he sure had a lot of. The one memory that will always stick with me of Mike would be one vacation the family went up to Idaho, we had lots of snow that year, my brother and I dug a tunnel in the snow, and Mike said he could build an igloo which we didn’t believe. Mike knew exactly how to build the igloo but what was even crazier he told us he could sleep in it over night through the snow and all because it provided a layer of protection and he would be warm, sure enough he proved to us that it was possible and the next morning all we could see were his big feet almost out of the igloo and everyone was worried so we went out to get him and he was completely fine. Anyways Mike did a lot that didn’t make sense but he was a very smart man and I’m grateful for having to grow up with his family and hope my little memory helps you guys remember even more that you all had with him.

Our family lived a few doors up from the Flints in the cement company's townsite in Oro Grande. "Grande Kids" were always together exploring the desert hills or coming up with creative ways to entertain themselves. Mike and my brothers were into wildlife and bugging their siblings. Eventually our family moved to Hesperia and Mike's to Victorville. Even though we weren't neighbors any longer our parents kept us in the loop. Joanne and I have seen each other over the years.

We are saddened with Mike's passing. I know all of the family has their memories and keeping them in your hearts will insure Mike will always be close. I know my brothers and I have talked about our childhood days and fondly remember Mike. May God comfort you at this difficult time and give you peace.
