Mariquita was born September 6, 1927 in Miranda,
Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, Philippines, the daughter
of Apolonio Lanzar and Pilar Cesar. She was the fourth of
7 children.
Mariquita graduated from pre-nursing from Siliman
Univeristy, then went on to earning a degree in Nursing
from Ilo Ilo Mission Hospital and graduated with honors.
She traveled to the United States in 1956 with her
husband where she became a nurse anaesthetist at Mt.
Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She went on to
earn her Masters in Nursing in 1977.
Mariquita married Dr. Angelo Ong-Veloso on June 1, 1955
in Cebu City and were married for 53 years. Her beloved
passed on July 4, 2008. Their love for each other was a
true love story and always hand in hand.
Mariquita enjoyed sewing, line dancing, gardening orchids
and vegetable gardens, shopping, and spending time with
her children and grandchildren. She loved to collect
jewelry and perfume.
She was an active member of the Philippine American
Association of the High Desert and was voted
“Outstanding Parent” in 2010.
Mariquita is best remembered for her generosity, as
hardworking, the matriarch of the family, a loving wife, and
proud of her children’s’ achievements.
Remaining to cherish Mariquita’s memory are her children:
Dr.Vivian Tan, Madeleine Ong-Veloso, Dr. Pamela
Danque, Dr. Angelo Ong-Veloso, and Dr. Glenn OngVeloso; her grandchildren: Christine Mediati, Brian
Danque, Daniel Mediati, Catherine Tan, Nathan Danque,
Garrett Danque, Barrett Ong-Veloso, Aria Ong-Veloso,
Brexley Ong-Veloso, Glenn Ong-Veloso; and greatgrandchildren: Flynn Mediati, Jude Mediati, and Tomi
Remien.
Mass will be held on April 25, 2025 at 12 pm at Holy
Family Church in Hesperia, viewing to follow from 3 pm - 7
pm at Desert View Memorial in Victorville. Funeral will be
held on April 26, 2025 at 11 am at Desert View Memorial.
