Ask anyone about Jon Harper and they will tell you about how humble, kind, and generous he was.

Jonathan Paul Harper Jr., was born to Jonathan Paul Harper Sr. and Cynthia Marie Harper on September 3, 1960, in Los Angeles, California. Jon attended Edgewood High School and later graduated with his GED. Jon took classes in painting, decorating, & paperhanging, along with his mentor and friend, Peter Dudek, at Mt. SAC college in Walnut, CA,

Jon met the love of his life, Jacqueline “Jackie” Harper in 1975, when she was just 12 years old, at a Youth Center dance. They would date in 1978 and marry, when she was 18 years old, and he was 20. Jon & Jackie resided in West Covina, CA and had 2 children, Candace Marie Harper and Christian Renae Harper. They moved their family to Victorville, CA in 1991, where the family currently resides.

On January 29, 1989, Jon made a decision to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior, at Calvary Chapel, West Covina. Jon would come to be an ordained Pastor at Hosanna Christian Fellowship, Victorville, CA, under Pastor Mark Scott. Jon counseled and officiated many weddings of friends, family members, and friends of friends.

Jon was an artist in hobby and an artist in his professional craft as a licensed painting contractor and successful business owner of Harper Painting. His son, Christian Harper, had the privilege of working with his father every day for many years. His employees could attest to his fairness and often very generous dealings with them. He treated and loved Mario Rodriguez like a son. Jon’s professionalism and kindness was respected in the paint stores and in his community. He was always referred to as highly recommended.

His employees weren’t the only recipients of his goodness. Jon dedicated his life to providing for his family and others who were in need of help. He often stopped on the side of the road to speak to the homeless, provide them with a gentle word of encouragement, support them financially, provide them a meal, or all 3. Not just buying a meal, but sitting and enjoying a meal with them. Jon was burdened for the underdog. He was determined to make the invisible, visible. He had compassion for those who felt they were less than, building them up, and convincing them that they were somebody.

As much as Jon loved his wife Jackie, his love for his 2 adult children, grandkids and foster daughter, Chantelle Brown, was evident. Jon made his love for his family known each and every day. He had a love for watching movies, drawing, camping, traveling and classic cars.

He leaves to cherish his memory, brothers Jeff Harper (Venessa), Rashidi Harper (Maria), Eric Harper (Michelle), sister Kiniya Harper, grandchildren, Jordan Harper, Cory Woods, Aaron Woods, Kamrin Harper, Joy Woods, Kai Jean-Paul, children of Chantelle Brown, (Devonne) Tyler Noah, Levi, Eilijah, Brielle, and host of other family members and close friends.
