Mr Guidry was my elementary music teacher at Jackson Elementary School. He taught us how to read music and the fun songs I still sing to myself. I began playing the oboe in 6th grade, joined the marching band and continue to always have music on in the background.  I worked at 1st State Bank and Trust with Ms. Renee. They had a garage sale and I bought a couch from them. Kept it a long time!  And...nothing I want to brag about,  but he caught me chewing on one of those nasty, orange Halloween whistles!  I think in the 4th grade!  I was so embarrassed, but he made me write sentences 100 times!  Made me straighten up!  Mr. Guidry will forever be in my Heart 💖💖💖

Dear Guidry Family,
My parents, Lorraine and Louis Fabrygel, were in the choir at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church when Woody was the director.  My brother and I were small children, but would be allowed to sit in the choir loft during rehearsal and also during the high masses when the choir was singing.  I remember both of them saying what a wonderful choir director he was and that the choir never sounded better when he was in charge.  There was lots of laughter during rehearsals and his talent was obvious to me, even though I was only about 7 or 8 years old.  Even today,  whenever I hear Angels We Have Heard on High during the Christmas season I think back on how he worked with the tenor and bass sections to sing their parts, and how proud they were of themselves when the sopranos and altos joined in and the whole song came together beautifully.  Other choir members that I can remember at that time were Mrs. Vela, Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Browning, and Mrs. Mary Sedgewick.  My mother passed away in 2005 and my father currently lives in a memory care facility in Waco.  Please accept my family's deepest condolences on the loss of Mr. Guidry. Edie and Mary Lou,
I remember your Dad from elementary school in Point Comfort as my music teacher, never imagining that his two daughters would become some of my most dear friends a few years later in Jr. High and High School.  I know he was an amazing father to you and also an amazing musician.  I will always remember him.  Love and condolences to you both and to all of his loved ones.  May he rest in Jesus' arms.

Mary Lou and Edie,

     I have so many wonderful memories of your father,  and I consider myself fortunate to have had him as a music teacher and mentor.  Some of my best memories are of the choral programs that he directed at Jackson Elementary School, the Christmas Carols at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, and the beautiful sounds of his trumpet that drifted through our neighborhood.

I had Mr.Guidry all through elementary school and I have so many fond memories. I felt so privileged to be a part of his Chorus. I could not carry a tune but somehow got picked. I was one of the three French Hens in the Christmas Musical. I still remember so many songs that I learned from Mr. Guidry, he was a fabulous teacher and loved Music. His family is in my prayers.

He was simply the best. I loved it when it was time for music. In high school I had a crush on him.
My mom instilled a love for music all her life, but Mr. Guidry nurtured it, gave meaning to it deeper than words to a sing.
My first class... How do you know what key the song is written in? 
I miss your wit, but you have been opening ears for generations; I bet there are more being opened by those you taught...Your own daughters...ripples in a pond.

Awesome man.  Remember him as a music teacher at Jackson elementary.  I’ve never forgotten the impression he made on me when asked if “practice makes perfect”?

His response was “no practice makes permanent”.  Made an impression on me that I’ve never forgotten.  My condolences 
to his family.  He was a talented wonderful man that I will never forget.

My parents W A Elliot and Blanche Elliott  had a grocery store downtown(Elliottt's) across the street from Woody's parents Guidrey's Dry Goods and I (Beverly) spent a lot of time there listening to them talk about their Woody. They were so proud. Then on Saturday nights my folks and I would watch Laurence Welk just to see Woody play! Those were fond days form my downtown growing up years 1945-1961. The buildings are still there and the memories as well. So glad to know how Woody carried his love of music into schools. As a retired teacher, I know that kind of influence a band director can have. Bless all of you that remain to share the fond memories you have. 

Some of my best memories are of music class at Jackson Elementary. My sister Donna and I often talk about the fun songs we learned and how upbeat Mr Guidry was. Condolences to the family.     ♪King of the Cannibal Island♫  We still sing it. 

Mr Guidry was one of my heroes growing up. He was my music teacher when I attended Jackson Elementary and he lived on the street in back of us. He always chatted with me whenever I saw him. In the eighties he and Mr Sanders, another teacher and neighbor, would work summers for the CCISD Maintenance Dept. I had some really interesting conversations with him. He told me stories of playing in the big bands of fifties and the Lawrence Welk Orchestra.  He was so down to earth and knew no strangers.  I know his family will miss him and enjoy his memories for a long time to come.

 As a passenger on his bus to visiting with him before mass, me as an altar boy and him as a lector, he was always a pleasure to be around. I knew not to mess up on the bus because he knew my parents and that anything bad I would do would get back to them. I am sure many remember him teaching us a new hymn before mass, it was obvious that he thoroughly enjoyed doing that, as well as leading the congregation when there wasn’t an organist. He was definitely at the top of my list for being the best lector in my lifetime. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Anyone that ever crossed in his path, especially his students and fellow parishioners, have truly been blessed knowing him. RIP Mr. Guidry

Sorry to hear of the loss of your father, Edie.  I only met him once, after he played trumpet at Adrienne and Dave’s wedding.  But that memory has always been with me.  Man, he owned that brass.

I was first introduced to Cuz Woody when our family watched the Champagne music on Saturdays. I later met him over  the net and phone during my ancestry searches. We spoke several times by phone and it was always my plan to visit him one day in Texas. 
I have also had the pleasure o f regular exchanges with Mary Lou and Edie. 
I guess he will be with Aunt Nonie and playing his trumpet.

From the Yankee side, he was my Mother’s (Grace Lea Bierman Dunham) cousin, we would drive down every summer to see family. Loved seeing that Grand piano in his living room. This was our chance to see our Texas cousins that were  close to the same age as us. Beach picnics are a great memory

There are so many memories of Uncle Bubba, great memories.  During my visits to Port Lavaca,  he would tell me when I was a toddler our families went to the local beach and I would always say "swing me Uncle Bubba, swing me".  He would grab my hands and twirled me around and around  and he said I  constantly asked him to swing me again and again.  He said he was so tired from twirling me, but he kept it up because I loved it!
Remembering him playing Moonlight Sonata on the piano. It was beautiful and he was wonderful on the trumpet too and he had a beautiful singing voice.
My fondest memory is when he played taps at his father's  funeral.  It was so spiritual and beautiful,  I don't know how he had the strength to do that. 
Enjoyed our phone conversations over the years about so many topics.
It was hard to pick out just a few memories.....everytime I think of him I smile.  He loved Myrna and you girls so much and always talked about ya'll!
Will miss him, great man of faith.

I will  never forget how honored, excited, and thankful I was to have Woody play trumpet at my wedding.   I have it on video and will cherish it forever.  From one horn player to another...Woody RIP and  may all the angels sing in B flat to your music.

So sorry  about your dad. He sure loved his 2 daughters. Praying for your family.
