Rose Marie Dyer Elmer

Rose Marie Dyer Elmer went to join her Heavenly Father on April 2, 2017. She was born March 17, 1933 in Camden -on -Gauley, West Virginia. She grew up in a small mountain town of Richwood where she developed her life-long love of music. She began her career in Charleston with United Carbon. It was there she met her husband, George H. Elmer Jr. They married and moved to Victoria in 1956 where they raised two children. Rose was involved with the First United Methodist Church in Victoria. She sang in the choir for 60 years. She was also a volunteer (VIP) in the church office for many years. She lent her talent of music to her Sunday School class as the piano accompanist. Rose volunteered her time to the Theatre Victoria as a costume designer and enjoyed attending musicals and plays with her husband. She was an avid Houston Astro’s fan adopting them as her favorite sports team from the inception of the franchise.

Rose loved spending time with her family and friends and she will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Maude Dyer, siblings Paul and Pearl Dyer, Mabel Hutchinson, Hazel Nevling, and Audra McClung.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, George H. Elmer Jr.; children George Mitchell Elmer (Lisa), and Lauren Rose Elmer Abernathy (Brett); siblings Dorothy Kobrin (Greg) and James Dyer (Miriam); grandchildren Jason Elmer (Christiana), Joshua Elmer, Justin Elmer (Ryan), Connor Abernathy and Bailey Abernathy; great grandchildren Titus and Avery Elmer.

Pallbearers are her grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, April 7, 2017 from 5:00-7:00pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.

A reception for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral service starting at noon on Saturday.

Funeral Service will be Saturday April 8, 2017 at 2:00pm at The First United Methodist Church of Victoria.

In lieu of flowers, the family would direct memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
