Robert D. Burris

He was born on March 20, 1921, in Santa Anna, Texas, Coleman County, to the late Dan Dotson Burris and the late Ada Willis (Mason) Burris, formerly of Beeville, Texas.

Robert Dan Burris is survived by one daughter, Bettye Jean Pribyl and her husband David Pribyl of Victoria, Texas; two siblings, Lucille “Lucy” (Burris) Holmes of Austin, Texas, and Vallon Leon Burris and his wife, Phyllis, of Winston Salem, North Carolina; three granddaughters, Anjanette Elaine (Pribyl) Fussell of Georgetown Texas, Shelley Lynne (Pribyl) Shroyer and her husband Donald Shroyer of Wimberley, Texas, and Melissa Christine (Pribyl) McDavid and her husband Dr. Andrew McDavid of Salado, Texas; eleven great grandchildren; two great, great granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Our family would especially like to thank his devoted caregivers who made such a loving difference to his final days: Michelle Ramirez, Kristie DeLosSantos and Ima King. Also, our sincere appreciation to Crown Hospice for their wonderful support during this difficult time.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Thelma (Wisner) Burris; four brothers; Legon Burris, Charlie Burris, Douglas Burris, Norwood “Honey” Burris; three sisters, Maggie Lorena (Burris) Monty, Etta Cleo (Burris) Traweek, and Hazel Mozelle (Burris) Rood.

Mr. Burris proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Force as a member of the Flying Tigers 449th Fighter Squadron attaining the rank of Tech Sergeant. A number of years after the war he re-entered the military enlisting in the US Air Force and retiring after 21 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #24 in Alamogordo, New Mexico and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Los Cruces, New Mexico, 32°, and a life member of the VFW, DAV, and Flying Tigers of the 14th Air Force.

A celebration of life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with full military honors. Private burial services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Military Cemetery in San Antonio.
