Mary Katherine Shafer

Mary Katherine Shafer, 80, of Victoria, passed away March 17, 2024. Mary was born August 7, 1943 in Luling, TX to the late Ola Inez Thompson and William Draper Sheppard. Mary was Head of Computer Operations / IT of Victoria County for 20 years. She was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Bloomington. After retirement she spent her time as a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoying time with her family and friends. She loved all animals especially her dogs. Mary loved to attend rodeos, Bobby and Mary had season tickets for many years to the NFR in Las Vegas. Mary enjoyed the occasional gambling and slot machines. Mary enjoyed getting her hair and nails done and you would rarely see her in public without her looking “prim and proper” She loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her husband of 56 years, George “Bobby” Shafer; daughter, Stacey Lee Olsovsky (Richard) of Lolita; son, Robert “Beaver” Andrew Shafer (Kimberly) of Bertram; brother, Bill Shepard (Karen) of Gonzales; granddaughters, Rebecca Lee Allen (Shelby) of Goliad, Bre Lopez (Javi) of Victoria and her great-grandchildren, Braedyn Elder, Kaydence Allen, Avery Allen, Blake Elder, Solomon Lopez and Kory Lopez. Mary also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 at 2 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.

Honorary pallbearers are Donnie and Sylvia Elkins, Darrell and Connie Whitfield, Jeanette Mitchell and Estella Villa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center.
