But Mary’s story began on August 21, 1950 in Victoria Texas. The late Joe Garcia and Dorothy Cano Mungia had been parents to boys, but on this day they became the proud parents of 2 baby girls.
Mary and her twin sister were born ready to make their mark on this world...unfortunately, only Mary would live past 11 months. Her baby sister would cheer her on from heaven.
Mary had a fun loving personality. You knew when she was in the room, whether she said a word or not. Her laughter and her love for others spoke louder than words. She demonstrated her love by caring for her family.
Family was the most important thing to her. Mary had so many adventures with her brothers and sisters. Just ask them and they’ll tell you about other chapters in her story. Adventures of overcoming the odds, surviving heartbreak and pressing on past pain. She always lived by the belief that even though disagreements sometimes happen in a family, in the end, family sticks together.
She enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, being with friends, going to garage sales, watching crime and investigation shows and bingo. She loved her bingo. Many have spoken of her legendary skills with a bingo dobber.
She also loved movies. (And popcorn was a must) In fact, some of her own pictures were featured in a movie called the Christmas Child. (I’m sure she’ll be willing to sign autographs someday.)
Mary was very brave and possessed a strong faith. She was also a member of Faith Family Church where she helped in the nursery. She made sure that every baby knew they were loved.
She enjoyed visiting the elderly. She would often visit elderly neighbors just to be sure they had what they needed and more importantly...just to talk.
Mary loved her children and grandchildren. She often spoke of her son Joe and cherished every moment she spent with him. Her son Vincent made her so proud. He always puts others first including her and his gentle spirit lets others know they’re safe when he’s around. And last but not least...she loved her daughter Brandy. Mary was proud of the fact that her daughter has a bit of the same spirit in her.
Mary’s heart was filled of joy and hope when she thought about her grandchildren. From gift giving to endless games of hide and seek...she was everything a grandmother should be.
Mary will forever be remembered as a devoted mother, caring sister, amazing grandmother, beloved aunt and loving friend who lived life fully and gave selflessly to her family and those around her.
She is survived by her daughter Brandy (Chris) Garcia of Victoria; sons, Vincent Flores of Victoria and Joe Flores of Dallas; grandchildren, Jonah Garcia and Zahide Flores; sisters, Rosemary Creamer of Victoria, Dorothy Mungia of Victoria and Anita Garcia Holstein of Florida; brothers, Albert Garcia of Oklahoma, Johnny Garcia (Linda) of Victoria, Felix Mungia of Victoria and Carlos Garcia (Brown) (Linda) of Florida. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and many extended family members.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her twin infant sister, Rose Mary Garcia and sister, Janie Garcia Cockrill; her brothers, Joe Garcia, Alfred Garcia, Tony Garcia and Sonny Cano.
May Mary’s story continue always...
