Mary Lou Gaines

Mary Lou Hill Gaines, 84, passed away September 22, 2024. Mary Lou was born December 8, 1939 in Pittsburg, KS to the late John and Louise (Oberzan) Gerant. Mary Lou married Ronald Hill and was married for 30 years until his passing in 1993. Together they had three children, James, David and Elizabeth. In January 2000, she married Robert “Bob” Gaines and they remained in Victoria until moving to Corpus Christi in 2013 when she was (also) diagnosed with dementia in order to be closer to family. Bob passed in 2015.

Mary Lou was a devout Catholic and was very active in Holy Family Catholic Church. She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting and taking care of her beautiful grandchildren.

Mary Lou is survived by her children, David Hill (Roman), Elizabeth “Beth” Hill McLain (John Jr.); grandchildren, Austin Navarro (Bethany), Hunter Hill (Carmen), Alexandra McLain, Abby McLain, Andrew McLain and 4 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ron and Bob and her first born son, James Whitman Hill.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 9-9:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church followed by the reciting of the rosary at 9:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM with burial at Resurrection Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Austin Navarro, Hunter Hill, Andrew McLain, Kyle Navarro, Steve Sparks and Shane Massey.

Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Hill, Kevin Hill, Mike Gerant Jr, Tommy Gerant and Jimmy Gerant.
