J.R. "Jim" Hartman of Victoria passed away at his home with his family by his side on Thursday, the 1st of August 2024 at the age of 79. He was born to Dorothy Smith Hartman and R.F. “Dick” Hartman on the 11th of February 1945 in Roswell, NM.
Jim never stopped learning and working for causes he deeply believed in. He lived his life with integrity, empathy, and humility. He always lived his faith, feeling strongly about doing the right thing, and was an outstanding role model for his children and grandchildren particularly. Additionally, Jim was a role model in business as he touched the lives of those who worked faithfully at VCS Companies, in the cow pens, and in all aspects of his life. Most importantly, Jim will be remembered for his steadfast and unwavering faith in God that was openly shared in his words, his life and his actions. He was a devoted husband, father, and “P” … his grandfather's name given to him by Kyle….to his family, and loved his church family at First English Lutheran Church (FELC) without hesitation. He faithfully served “FELC” in many capacities over 50+ years of his active membership. Jim was knows to share his patriotism and his faith in his actions always.
Jim had a long history of volunteer and community involvement which serving in board positions with the Victoria Chamber of Commerce; Victoria Livestock Show Board; South Texas Farm & Ranch Show; Rotary Clubs both Victoria and Sunrise; Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association; 100 Club of Victoria, to name but a few. He was the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow during his time in Rotary and awarded for his support of law enforcement on both a local and state level. His love and passion for helping others was exemplified in many ways unseen by others yet touched hearts and souls in various ways to better lives and share blessings that he and Jennifer believed were received and shared.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jennifer Rode Hartman; his daughter Kelly Lou Henke and husband Keith; his son J.R. Hartman Jr. and wife Amy; grandsons Kyle Henke, Ethan Hartman, Ryan Hartman and his granddaughter, Katelinn Henke. He is survived by nieces and nephews and many special friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Ada Lou Richman.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 7th of August at First English Lutheran Church, 516 N. Main. A memorial service to honor Jim’s life is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday the 8th of August at First English Lutheran Church. Pastor Chip Reynolds will officiate. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private graveside service.
