John H. Faulkner, 89, was born November 16, 1922, in Dierks, Arkansas, to Oliver Harvey Faulkner and Lena Lloyd Faulkner. He married Dorothy L. Faulkner on July 13, 1951, and they had two daughters, Dawn L. Faulkner and Debbie Brockway. John entered active duty United States Army Air Corp July 8, 1940, served as an airplane mechanic from July 1940-April 1942 achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on June 25, 1943, and immediately re-entered service as a 2nd Lt. where he was trained as a P40 Fighter Pilot and a B-24 Bomber Pilot. In September 1943 was transferred to New Guinea to serve with the 320th Bomber as a co-pilot for a B-24 Bomber where he achieved the rank of 1st Lt. May 27, 1944. Between September 1943 and August 1944 he flew 44 combat missions. August 1944 he was transferred back to the United States. Between January 1945 and January 1946 he served as a pilot for single engine crafts. He was honorably discharged on March 27, 1946, from military service. He was awarded the American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with New Guinea Star, the American Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal and the air metal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster. John then worked at DuPont as an area shift supervisor until his retirement in 1982.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Oliver Faulkner Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lowrance Faulkner of Victoria, two daughters Dawn L. Faulkner and husband, Presly Schoenemann from Lafayette, LA, and Debbie Brockway and husband, Mike Brockway from Temple; a sister from Ohio and a sister from California. He has three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 pm on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jarrell Sharp officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
