Gladys Janell (Huey) Hobbs, 94, of McKinney passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021. She was born September 21, 1926, in Belton, Texas, to the late Melvin and Byrdeen Huey. She received a Bachelors degree in Home Economics from Mary Hardin Baylor in 1947. She married Robert Eugene Hobbs, Jr., on June 26, 1948.
She taught Home Economics at Victoria High School in the 1960s and 70s. She was a lifelong Methodist and a member of First United Methodist in Victoria for over 70 years, serving the church in many capacities. Her favorite role later in life, though, was as “Gran” to two granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter, Sherry (Bailey) Wichman, of McKinney; son, Robert Michael Hobbs, of Austin; granddaughters Anne (Jay) Clark and Nell (Justin) Stortz; and great-grandchildren Zeke, Eli, Selah, and Titus Stortz, and Sarah, Hannah, Rebekah, Deborah, and Leah Clark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene Hobbs; brother, Doyle Huey; and daughter-in-law, Mimi Hobbs.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 13th at 1:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Victoria, followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm. Burial will be in Memory Gardens following the service.
