Elizabeth Ann Ammerman Killebrew received her lifelong wish to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in paradise on December 25, 2016. Elizabeth also known as “Betty” or “Annie” was born on November 6, 1933 in Ott, Arkansas to Homer C. Ammerman and Gracie Lorene (nee Gray) Ammerman. She joined her older brother and best friend Joseph Ammerman with whom she shared a special bond. Betty graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1951 and was voted Most Popular. Betty was a devout Christian and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. One of the greatest gifts she gave her family was the importance of faith in life.
Betty married her life-long love and partner Milton A. Killebrew in Spokane Washington on November 15, 1951 while he was serving in the Korean conflict. After the service, Milton and Betty returned to Victoria to work, live and raise their family. Always working as a partnership, Betty was active in working alongside her husband in the automobile repair business and then in the new and used auto dealership. Milton and Betty just recently retired in November 2016 from the auto business.
Betty was involved in the church and several social organizations during her life including the Mary Circle, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Decora Study Club where she held several officer positions. Betty and Milton were also instrumental in forming the Walk to Emmaus program in the Methodist Church that is ongoing and promotes stewardship and leadership in bringing people to know Christ. Known as a great cook and baker, she was famous for her biscotti and peanut brittle and was best friends to all of her children and grandchildren. It is going to be difficult to live in this world without her in it but we are assured we will meet her again in Heaven. Although her cancer will not healed on earth she will be healed in heaven. She fought a long hard fight to stay here with her family but we are thankful she is at rest.
Betty is preceded in death by parents, grandparents and niece Lauren Ammerman Krenek.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Milton A. Killebrew, brother and sister-in law, Joe and Barbara Ammerman of Georgetown, TX, daughters Pamela Hill (Bobby); Elizabeth Freyer (Jack); Christie Carroll (Steve) and son David Killebrew (Janet) all of Victoria. Grandchildren Ryan and Randy Hill; Patrick, Stuart and Katie Killebrew; James Scott (Amy) and Luke Wakefield; and Emily and Olivia Carroll and four great-grandchildren, Kellan Killebrew, Morris Killebrew and James and Owen Wakefield. Nephew Clay Ammerman and wife, Erin of Hempstead, TX.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday from 5-7 PM, at Colonial Funeral Home, 1801 E. Red River. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM, December 28, at the First United Methodist Church located at 407 N Bridge St. As a tribute to Betty, we ask that attendees wear bright colors to honor the color that Betty brought into this world.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ryan and Randy Hill, Patrick and Stuart Killebrew and James and Luke Wakefield. Honorary Pallbearers are son-in-law’s Jack Freyer, Bobby Hill, and Steve Carroll, granddaughters Katie Killebrew, Emily Carroll and Olivia Carroll. Also, Dr. Reverend Robert and Sara Johnston, Dr. Rudy Koenig, Hazel Coon, Bobby Jacob, Eli Amador, Bill Salge, Ray Rendon and all former employees of Killebrew Inc.
