Edward "Ski" Romanowski

Edward John Romanowski, 86 of Victoria, TX passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Edward, also commonly known as “Ski” was born on the island of Oahu in Honolulu, Hawaii to the late John and Beatrice Martin Romanowski. As a young child, Ski witnessed the Japanese planes flying over his house enroute to bomb Pearl Harbor. Due to circumstances beyond his control, he was raised in an orphanage. Ski left the orphanage at the age of 14 to live with an aunt and uncle. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy. Ski spent 20 years in the Navy serving as an aircraft electrician. During his time in the Navy, he was stationed in Texas. He met Helen Chappell in Aransas Pass, TX. They married on April 26, 1956, and were married for 14 years until Helen succumbed to cancer on October 21, 1970. Ski’s last duty station was Beeville, TX before retiring as Chief Petty Officer in 1974. After leaving the Navy, he continued living in Victoria, TX and started working for Sears in appliance /TV repair. He worked for Sears for about 20 years before retiring for good in 1994. Later in his life, Ski was briefly married to Mary Rojas. They have enjoyed a close relationship for 47 years. Although they had no children together, he developed a close and strong relationship with Mary’s children, John Anthony Rojas and his wife Linda and Joseph Rojas and his wife Lori.

Along with his parents, Ski was preceded in death by his brothers Leonard Romanowski, Vernon Romanowski, Charles Romanowski; sisters Betty Ann Soriano, and Judy Rodrigues. He is survived by his children Edward John Romanowski Jr., Judith Ann Armbruster and her husband Robert, Sherry Lynn Romanowski and her life partner Roy, Ronald Marcel Romanowski and his wife Melissa; grandchildren Brian Romanowski, Tommy Romanowski, Daniel D. Romanowski, Paul Barrientes, Dominique Armbruster, Dylan Romanowski, Tyler Romanowski, Christopher Rojas, Blaise Rojas, Caden Rojas, Stefani Rojas, Sage Rojas; great grandchildren Samantha Wesley, Kevin Romanowski, Bethany Padilla and her husband Darren, Kristaline Jahn and her husband Kole, Brittany Garcia and her husband Adriano, Daniel T. Romanowski, Jada Romanowski, Kayden Romanowski, Jace Barrientes, Ambree Romanowski, Kyra Romanowski, Tommy Romanowski Jr.; great-great grandchildren Keaton and Kolston Wesley, Audriana Garcia, Raelynn Padilla, and Arabella Garcia. Ski will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. He lived a fruitful and blessed life surrounded by those who loved him. We love you Daddy, and we know you are at peace with the Lord.

The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, October 4th 2023 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home 1801 E. Red River St. Victoria, TX 77901 with A Celebration of Life to follow. Hawaiian attire is encouraged. Burial with military honors will be in the Resurrection Cemetery 1009 E. Mockingbird Victoria, TX.
