David grew up on a farm in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He was the oldest child of John and Ethel. He completed high school and then was drafted into the Army. He served in World War II.
He met the love of his life, Betty Rohlmeier and they were married on May 18, 1952. This union was blessed with 4 daughters.
David was a hard worker. He worked on the farm then in 1958 moved to Oklahoma. He worked in various jobs – Jewel Tea Company, drove a school bus for Buffalo, Oklahoma school system, pastored several Churches in Kansas and Oklahoma. After retiring from pastoring, he went to work for Wal-Mart as a greeter. He worked at Wal-Mart for 13 years and retired at age 87, and considers Wal-Mart his second family. He also enjoyed eating lunch with his friends after church on Sundays.
David was a man of quiet greatness – a faithful man full of passion for God, love for his wife and family. He loved God’s Word and was faithful to read the scriptures daily. David and Betty had a special love for each other and celebrated 60 years of marriage May 18, 2012. He was a faithful member at Faith Family Church.
Survivors include his wife, daughters Ginny Helms (Larry), Diane Cannon – both of Victoria, Texas, Betty Ann Burress (Richard) of Pea Ridge, Arkansas and Tamra Cash (Curt) of Amarillo, Texas, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Joan Johnson of Abilene, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Memorial service will be held at Faith Family Church Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
