He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from November 1957- December 1966. After the Navy, he was employed with the Victoria Police Department and retired from Union Carbide in 2002. While at Union Carbide he was a Certified EMT and Firefighter. Bill married Annette Horton on January 15, 1970 in Austin, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Holcomb; daughter, Mende Holcomb; and sons, Keenan (Rhonda) Smith, Paul Holcomb, John Holcomb, Daniel "Dan" Holcomb, and Billy (Sara) Holcomb; sister, Glenda Worden Stallard; and brother, Tim Holcomb. Bill’s grandchildren are Jamie and Jenny Smith, Aaron Holcomb and Destinie Holcomb Mir, Ashlene and Majella Holcomb, and Arbor, Xiola, Zealand, and Finn Holcomb.
Bill was a member of First Christian Church, where he loved to hear the stories of the Bible that Pastor Doug Richardson preached every Sunday and attended Bible Study during the week. Some of his passions were fishing, grocery shopping for his friends, drinking coffee at Halepaska’s with “the guys” and walking in the mall each day with his many friends. Some would also say he loved mowing his lawn. Bill’s biggest passion was the love for all his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Holcomb; mother, Virginia Davis; step-mother, Mildred Short Holcomb; and sister, Tammy and her husband, Roland Rossignol.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 6pm-8pm at Colonial Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council.
Serving as pallbearers are Pat Knipling, Colton Knipling, Jimmy Barnett, Shahid Mir, Aaron Holcomb and Arbor Holcomb. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ron Kocian, Jim Dusek, Bill Hohlt, P.L. Gill, Ludy Janak and Wayne Linam.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Warriors Weekend or Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion.
