The family of Vivian Elvera Hagen (Noreen) is sad to announce the passing of their much loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister on February 24, 2023 at the amazing age of 105 – 3 months shy of her 106th birthday.
Vivian was born on May 29, 1917 in Tompkins, Sask. She passed peacefully at the Kiwanis Pavillion residence in Victoria, B.C. where she had resided for the past 3 years.
Vivian is predeceased by her husband, Roth Hagen (Erling Trygve Haugen), who passed away in 2003 and her eldest son, Robert (Bob) Dennis Hagen, who passed away September 12, 2020.
She is lovingly remembered by her 3 remaining children, Judith Lucille (Jeff) Mahaffey, Leslie Jean Clark (Brian Lyseng), and Lance Dale (Carol) Hagen. She is also fondly remembered by her only sibling, sister Mavis Regenwetter, of Dawson Creek, B.C.
Vivian has 6 grandchildren: Devin Mahaffey, Andrea (Rob) Watson, Erin (Conor) Harrop, Michael Lyseng (Rebecca Middleton), Neil Hagen (Sally Swain), and Mat (Chelsea) Hagen.
Vivian also has 9 great grandchildren: Shaina Watson, Kyle Watson, Declan Mahaffey, Ava Mahaffey, Maeve Harrop, Nuala Harrop, Niya Hagen, Louie Lyseng and Lionel Lyseng.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her. Vivian always had time for them all; baking, playing games and reading with them. She was a wonderful, loving grandma. The great grandchildren didn’t know her as well, but she was so proud and fond of them all.
Vivian met her husband, Roth, in Vancouver, B.C. and they were married there on October 30, 1943. They would have celebrated 60 years together, but sadly Roth passed in July 2003. They raised their family primarily in High Prairie, AB and Dawson Creek, BC before moving to Vancouver Island in 1965. There they lived in Comox for a number of years before moving to Victoria, Kamloops, Peachland and then returning to Victoria. In 2002, they moved into the Renaissance Independent Living Residence in Esquimalt. Vivian continued to live there after Roth’s passing in 2003, until February, 2020.
In later life, they enjoyed travelling, camping and golfing together. Vivian had a strong interest in art and painting and loved reading, walking and playing crib.
She will always be remembered for her patience and soft manner. She liked to dress well and had a special liking in later years for fancy sandals.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be determined.
Inurnment of her ashes will be at First Memorial on Falaise Drive, Victoria.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at Kiwanis Pavilion. Their care and compassion helped mom and her family through the last chapter of her long and wonderful life.
