Vernon Kenton Smith

Vernon passed away peacefully July 9th, surrounded by the love of his family. Dad was born in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba and moved to Vancouver Island in 1940, settling and living the rest of his life in Langford.

Vernon is survived by his wife Shirley, daughters Della (Dennis), Jennifer (Steve); grandchildren Christopher, Nicolas, Roger, Jacob and Stefanie and their families. He was predeceased by son Brett, daughter Kristy, brother Dennis Smith, sister Chris Erickson, sons-in-law Ian Evans and Max Gwin.

He married the love of his life Shirley in 1956 and for the next 65+ years enjoyed many adventures together. They had 4 children, which in turn produced 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Papa LOVED his family.

Dad was an avid sports fan, and followed his wife, daughters and grandchildren all over the continent in their sporting endeavours.

Vern was a career logger, spending the majority of his working life with Munns Lumber, retiring in 2001. He loved being in the bush, whether it be work, camping or Christmas tree hunts.

Dad was bigger than life, living by the mantra 'if you can't be right be wrong at the top of your voice!' He will be immensely missed .

A celebration of life for Vernon will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 at 2:00 PM at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, British Columbia V8Y1B4.
