Roberto Mercado Gutierrez

GUTIERREZ, Roberto Mercado October 14, 1931 to December 13, 2014 Roberto slipped away peacefully at Selkirk Lodge on December 13, 2014, leaving his devoted wife of 61 years, Juana and their four children, Robert/Chava (Rosalyn), Ruth (Jorge), Norma (Chava), and Nancy (Garry), 8 grandchildren Scott, Quique, Bob, Jason, Leanne, Krystal, Garry, Nicole and 8 great-grandchildren Taylor, Emilio, Olivia, Janeina, Yesenia, Santiago, Carmelo, and Brayden, who brought so much joy to his life. Also grieving his loss are his brothers, sisters, extended family and friends. With few resources, in 1965 Roberto moved his family to Victoria, fulfilling a life-long dream. He became a popular cook for Island Tug/Seaspan until his retirement. Roberto was a fabulous dancer and many times, Juana and Roberto had the dance floor to themselves while others watched. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Selkirk Lodge (Crofton unit) for their phenomenal care of Roberto during his residence, as well as Dr. Luco. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation (BC Yukon) or Diabetes Association of BC would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held for Roberto in the chapel at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC at 10:00 am on Friday, December 19, 2014.
