On December 5, 2024, Michael Wagnell (Mike), born on August 26th, 1936, and Sheila Wagnell (Sheala), born on June 17th, 1937, while accompanied by their loved ones, bid farewell to this world. After 64 years of marriage, they passed in peace and tranquility, side by side, unafraid of the uncertainties that lie ahead.
Mike and Sheala epitomized dignity, style, and grace. Their journey together began in Reading, west of London, in the late 1950s. On November 5th, 1960, they solemnly pledged to share their lives in sickness and in health for as long as they both would live.
Presented with an opportunity with Barclay’s Bank, and in the spirit of adventure, the newlyweds spent a few years in Lagos Nigeria before returning to Reading.
In 1969, they immigrated to Canada with their two sons, Craig and Angus, embarking on the arduous task of establishing a new life in this unfamiliar land. Mike secured a position as branch manager for the Royal Bank and Sheala became the Assistant to managers, first at Pitfield Mackay Ross and later with RBC Dominion Securities.
Both Mike and Sheala had long and successful careers, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of numerous clients, customers, and friends. Their unwavering commitment to the importance of people and their steadfast dedication to their duties serve as a beacon of inspiration for all.
They are survived by their beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Craig (Tawney) and Angus (Janis), and their cherished grandchildren, Gareth and Carys. Proud of their heritage, they maintained a composed demeanor and a sharp wit until their final moments. True to their English heritage, they both maintained a stiff upper lip and a pithy sense of humour until their last few breaths when Sheala asked Mike “Well, was it worth it” and with a wry smile he said “Yes”.
Although Mike and Sheala are gone, they will live in our hearts forever.
At their request there will be no service.
