Kjeld Brodsgaard

Kjeld passed away in the comfort of his own home on the morning of Monday, February 5, 2024. He was born in Herning, Denmark and immigrated to Canada at the age of 16 years with his mother Karen and proudly called Victoria, BC home for the remainder of his life. In high school, Kjeld met Kathy and they were married in 1970 and have been together ever since.

Kjeld was diagnosed with Stage Four Gastric Cancer on January 10, 2024. The diagnosis came out of nowhere and the speed at which the cancer attacked his system was devastating.

Kjeld was predeceased by his brother Mogens, his mother Karen and father Aksel. He is survived by his wife Kathy, son Shel (Paola) and granddaughter Isabella.

Sporting Accomplishments:

- Member of Canadian Amateur Wrestling Hall of Fame

- BC Official of the Year on Four Occasions

- The "Brodsgaard Award" was created to recognize wrestling officials with 25 years of service to CAWOA

- Lifetime member of BCWOA, CAWOA, Honorary FILA E member and FILA Gold Star recipient

- Member of the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame

- A.C Stanford Life Member Award Recipient from the British Columbia Soccer Association

The family would like to acknowledge the Hospital at Home Program based out of the Victoria General Hospital for allowing him to receive the care, love, attention and support he required in the comfort of his own home at the final stages of his life.

The family would also like to recognize Dr. Obinna Nwaeze for his kind heart and genuine character in helping him through this circumstance.

The family are grateful for the privacy provided by friends and colleagues who respected our request for privacy in his final weeks of life- the rate of which the cancer spread throughout his body was unfathomable.

The Family will host an Open House on Saturday, February 17th from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Family Home to celebrate Kjeld. Should you feel a need to donate in his memory please do so to KidSport.
