Joan Alexandria Kosich (Gray) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 22, 2024. Words cannot adequately express how much Joan, also known as Mom and Nana, was loved by her family, friends and neighbours.
Joan was born on October 1, 1936, in Regina, Saskatchewan, to Bill and Barbara Gray. She attended UBC to become a teacher, where she joined Gamma Phi Beta and met the love of her life, George Kosich. George initially called her from the student directory, but Joan wouldn’t go out with strangers, so he met her at the UBC library. It was love at first sight, leading to a marriage that spanned 68 years. Joan had a passion for the arts, particularly ballet and opera, and she loved to dance and play the piano.
Her appreciation for fashion and beautiful things was reflected in her gardens. An avid gardener, Joan, along with her beloved husband, created garden masterpieces at the various homes they lived in. When she wasn't in her garden, Joan could be found skiing elegantly down Whistler, a place she loved to gather with her family.
Joan is survived by her devoted husband, George Kosich; her sister, Alice Pavelich; and her five children: William Kosich (Lynn), Georgina Kosich (Alexander), John Kosich, Barbara White (Rob), and Robert Kosich (Dana). She is also survived by her three cherished grandchildren: William White, Rachel White, and Lucy Kosich.
No service will be held at this time. We extend special thanks to all of Joan’s caregivers, with particular gratitude to BC Cancer Victoria and Dr. John McGhie.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to BC Cancer - Victoria.
