Born to Gordon and Signe McArthur in 1927 in Wadena, Saskatchewan, Jean is predeceased by her sister Lorraine (Norman Benjamin Burgoyne) and beloved step-mother Viola May Pollock (Harry Wickstrom). She is survived by her step-brother Verne Williams (Carolyn Isabel McKenzie), son Rob (Gail Battryn), daughters Susan and Judith, Darla Stephens-Thompson mother of her four grandchildren, Aaron, Chris, Jim and Sarah and 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jean moved with her father and step-mother from the prairies to BC as a teenager and worked as a telephone operator before marrying Wilfred Robert McLauchlan in 1949. The family lived in Port Hardy, Princeton and Grand Forks before settling in Kamloops in 1967. When Wilf died in 1993, Jean continued as an active member of the hospital auxiliary and the Kamloops United Church. She enjoyed singing and was a member of church and community choirs including the popular choral group, the Classy Chassis. In 2009 Jean moved to Victoria to be closer to her children.
She enjoyed a year at the Glenshiel but then moved to full care at the Glengarry. Jean moved to Mount St. Mary Hospital in the spring of 2012. We are so grateful for the kind and wonderful care she received while at MSM. Thank you to the resident care aides, the nurses, and all the wonderful people that provided a home for Jean. Thank you for being there for her and for her family.
