It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jan Wenger on October7, 2024. Jan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma, friend, teacher, mentor, and person. She leaves her husband and best friend Howie, sons Matt (Kajsa), Dave (pre-deceased); daughter Sonja (Sylvain); granddaughters Maia, Hannah, Noelle, and Livia; grandsons Carson, Nate, and Garen. She was pre-deceased by her parents Margaret and Bob Saare, sister Robin (Hal); brothers Darryl (Pat), Jim (Jan Marie), and Don.
Jan grew up in Rossland B.C. and completed her BSc in microbiology at UBC in 1967. She then worked as a microbiologist in both Vancouver and Edmonton. She and Howie were married in 1965, lived in Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa, and finally moved to the Island in 1980. Jan became the Senior Lab Instructor in Anatomy at the University of Victoria and retired in 1999. She was also very active in the energy healing community as both a life-long learner and instructor.
Jan battled Alzheimer’s for the past few years but always had such a positive view on every day and everyone. The loss of who she was became too much for her to bear so she passed away at peace and with grace at home under the care of our excellent MAID physician. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The world is a better place because of the character and modelling of this angel. We would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Milvi Tiislar who guided us humbly, respectfully and professionally on our journey through the MAID program.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C.
