Born at Grace Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. on November 15, 1944, Mae graduated from Gladstone Secondary School in 1962, and went on to complete her R.N. in-residence at the Vancouver General Hospital in 1967. Mae received her B.Sc.N. degree (with distinction) from the University of Victoria in 1995.
Mae’s life was spent in selfless service to others - first for 52 years as the wife of Gerry, her pastor husband, mother to her children Cherylin and Wendy, and as a geriatric nurse serving seniors in numerous care facilities both in Alberta and British Columbia. Mae loved music - singing in trios and church choirs, playing the piano, and accompanying various groups and individuals. One of her favorite selections in recent months was “I Can Only Imagine." Today, what she was imagining is being experienced in reality!
Mae is survived by her husband Gerald (Gerry); daughter Cherylin (Dan); daughter Wendy; sister Charlene; brother Chuck (Pat); grandchildren Maija, Cierra and Brandon; nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Family was extremely important to Mae and she delighted in connecting with each one whenever possible.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, Cornelis and Emily de Haan.
