Faye Walker died peacefully on November 22, 2023, at the Victoria Hospice in Victoria, BC, at age 89. Faye was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband of close to 65 years, Don Walker, on September 15th of this year. Faye is survived by her children Scott (Valerie), Ross (Beth), Lori (Susan); grandchildren Cameron and Benjamin (Olivia); and brother Robert (Shelley).
Faye was born and grew up in Trail, BC. After graduating from high school and briefly attending nursing school, she moved to the big city of Vancouver where she later met Don, a dashing RCAF pilot. A well-loved family legend tells of Don flying low over English Bay and tipping the wings of his plane as a greeting to her. Who could resist! Don and Faye married in Ottawa in 1958, and honeymooned in New York City (where they had their first pizza!). They lived in Ottawa for several years, where Scott and Ross were born, and later moved to Greenwood, Nova Scotia, where they welcomed their daughter Lori.
The family moved to Victoria in 1967, where Faye rejoined the workforce, working for many years at the Victoria Mental Health Centre. Despite working full time and taking care of her family, Faye found time to enjoy curling, and later became an avid runner, running several marathons. In her retirement, Faye enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, studying Spanish, and travelling the world with Don.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Nurse Next Door, and the staff of the Victoria Hospice, for their compassionate and loving care of Faye in her last weeks.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, December 17th from 2 pm to 4 pm at First Memorial Royal Oak, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are gratefully appreciated.
