Donella (Dawn) Huestis died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 19, 2024 in Victoria B.C. Dawn is preceded in death by her 9 siblings (Helen, Elwood, Marie, Vera, Harold, Hubert, Carmen, Gary and Donald) all born and raised in Fleming, Saskatchewan. Along with them, she joins her beloved husband Cliff and her daughters Kim Moore and Lynne Huestis. She is survived by daughter Rae Forster (Steve), granddaughter Brea Garnett (Matt), great granddaughter Sophie, grandsons Alex and Bryan Tecter (Jamie) along with many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving wife, mother, gramma, great-gramma, sister and auntie greatly cherished by family and friends alike. Making lifelong friends in the many places she lived with her family, she was considered a second “Mother” to younger friends and family. An excellent nurse to many, she trained at the Misericordia in Winnipeg where she met her husband Cliff at a Navy Dance. She began her nursing career at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, worked in the ICU in the Halifax Naval Hospital, Student Clinics at Carleton University in Ottawa and University of Victoria, and as a Public Health Nurse in Langford, Colwood and Metchosin area. She completed her long, productive career as a Geriatric Nurse at the Sunset Lodge in Victoria and was very proud of the many years of dedicated service to her community.
She was a beautiful, compassionate and generous person, who loved a good laugh, a funny story, dancing and she lived life to the fullest. She hosted countless family/friend gatherings in her home, always of good cheer with an open door and open heart. We are so lucky to have had her in our lives for as long as we did and we are grateful that she was healthy and independent. We love you Mom, Grandma and Auntie. You will always be held close in our hearts. XO
