Delcie was born in Vancouver as that was the closest hospital, but grew up on the west coast of Vancouver Island in a place called Clo-oose. As there was no school by the time she was of age, she did school work via correspondence up to grade 8, surprising many that she was not formally educated. She was the last of her siblings, bridged over two families. She touched many lives. At Clo-oose she was an entrepreneur and developed a seashell business, collecting, cleaning, and shipping shells all over the world, her customers often assumed she was a man as such good business sense. Once she came to town (Victoria) she worked in a Café as wait staff, then married and started a family. Having 5 children of her own, Stephen, Bonnie, Douglas, Lawrence, and Sharon. She always said if she had to do again she would not marry, but would have her kids, as her marriage did not last. She was separated for 10 years before asking for a divorce to live her own life. As well as looking after her own children she was also a foster mom and always had a full house, some staying to grow up as a family Arthur, Stevie, and Rick. She was active in the community, helping organize and chaperone the youth group at our Local Church also volunteering for many bazaars, renowned for her pie making skills. When she stopped being a foster mom she was a daycare mom for many years and sprinkled in with all of this she was a landlady. Her first acquisition was for a place for her mom to reside with a rental on the other side, then other rental properties came and went, she had a knack for this, but had trouble in the beginning obtaining mortgages as the banks said she needed a man to co-sign for her, so she turned to the credit unions. She also helped others over the years if they showed an interest in obtaining property and many of her earlier investments were carrying mortgages for others. She also delivered the local free paper and flier to our neighborhood twice a week for many years going through several company changes and receiving very complimentary letters of recommendation. It was while delivering these papers that she had a fall, hit her head and that started her decline with the onset of Dementia, which she lived with for many years. Family trying to look after her, then gaining the help of care workers, then finally residing at Heights at Mt View in January 2015 to live out her days with regular visits from family members on a daily basis whenever possible. She leaves behind many that loved her, 4 surviving children, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Her wishes were simple so there will be no service but she will be taken back to the family plot in Clo-oose.
