Chuck was born in the farming community of Agassiz, BC in 1935. In his youth he dreamed of working for the Canadian Pacific Railway (the Lovell’s ran station houses for the CPR along the Fraser Canyon into Vancouver) or in the military like his uncles who served in WWII. He joined the Canadian Military with thoughts of going to Korea but was kept back in Canada because he was too young to serve overseas. He served with the PPCLI in Signals with deployments in Cyprus and Germany in peacekeeping roles. He retired from the military after 25 years in Victoria, BC where he later worked with Labatt’s Brewery, Yarrows Shipyard, private security, and with the Sgt. at Arms staff at the Provincial Legislature. No matter where he worked, he gave it his all and took pride with the organizations with which he served.
In retirement he enjoyed life in Victoria with his growing family of grandkids and great grandkids. He and his wife of 58 years Susan-Ann enjoyed travels in their trailer across North America, an overseas trip to England and a cruise to Alaska.
His final years were spent with growing medical challenges that resulted in residence at Broadmead, Veterans Memorial Lodge where he received loving care from the staff and clergy.
Chuck was predeceased by his sister Kathleen and mother Pansy (Lovell), who both passed away when he was young, his step-mother Martha, his father Ross, his siblings Arnie, Anne and Ken.
He is survived by, and husband to Susan-Ann (Lomas), dad to Karen (Scott Derry), Keith (Heather ‘Rollins’), and Kimberly (Paul Mazzulli), a Grandpa to Amanda (Jordan Tapp), Andrew, Crystal (Sébastien Lavoie) and Jacob; Derry, Brittany Dissanayake (Buddi) nee Gibson, Myles and Justin; Mazzulli, and ‘GG’pa to Maisie, Charlie, Elijah, and Oliver, all of Victoria, BC and his younger brother Ronald (Marilyn) Gibson, and sister-in-law Doris Card, and many extended family and lifelong friends.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
A donation in Chuck’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32, PO Box 432, Agassiz, BC V0M 1A2
