It is with profound sorrow we announce Charlie's passing. He left us peacefully with family by his bedside on December 13, 2022, in Victoria.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Moira, son David (Lolanda), daughter Lynn (Jeff), precious grandchildren Brandon, Taryn, Cory, and Wyatt, and loving family in Scotland.
Charlie was born November 1939 in Cardross, Scotland. At 20, Charlie came to Canada, landing in Montreal, then travelling by train to Saskatchewan and finally joining his soulmate, Moira, in Victoria where they made it their home. Here they were married and raised their beautiful family.
He worked at several jobs before starting with the Victoria School District and was there for thirty years before retiring at age 60. Charlie was a proud man who possessed exceptional wit and humour. He was a natural storyteller who spoke with a glint in his eye and a smile on his face. His tales of mischief and growing up in Bonnie Scotland, playing soccer, or working for the school board would captivate any listener. Many a laugh was had by all with Charlie in their presence. He was a man of many talents, tremendously handy and could build or fix most anything. He rarely needed help but was quick to lend a hand to others. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports, especially Hockey Night in Canada.
Charlie was extremely proud of his family and loved them with all his heart. He showed great courage in his final days.
Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Chloé Lemire-Elmore and her resident for their gentle care and compassion.
A beautiful spirit has taken wing. We will miss you dearly.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held in the spring. Flowers are gratefully declined.
