The family announces with great sadness the peaceful passing of Britt Adams at the Lodge at Broadmead on September 1st, 2016. Britt was predeceased by the love of her life of 54 years, husband Doug. Loving remembered by daughter Barbara(Dan), granddaughters Lauren(Duncan), Julia, greatgrandchildren Kara, Bryce; daughter Brenda(Karl), granddaughter Jessica, grandson Aaron; son Mark(Linda), grandsons Steven, Logan.
Britt came to Canada at a young age of 2 from Sweden with her family. As the second eldest of 10 siblings, she developed a special gift of helping and encouraging children through education. At the University of Victoria, Britt completed her B.Ed., M.A., Ph.D. degrees. She was employed for many years as a psychologist at the Greater Victoria School District, where she loved working with children of all ages and especially children with learning disabilities. Not only did she enjoy working with the children, she also enjoyed working with the teachers and formed many special bonds with her colleagues. Needless to say education was extremely important to Britt and she encouraged all young people to follow their dreams. She established the B. Barbara Adams scholarship at the University of Victoria to assist university students in pursuing higher education. Britt has held executive positions in various professional organizations, including Delta Kappa Gamma-Lambda, the Greater Victoria Teachers Special Education Association, and the International Reading Association. Apart from educational pursuits, Britt was an avid traveler, and music and arts enthusiast.
The family sends a special thank you for the kindness and tremendous care of Britt from Dr. Paul Boughen and the staff at the Lodge at Broadmead. A service will be held at the First Memorial Royal Oak, 4725 Falaise Drive, Friday September 16th, 2016 at 10 am, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Victoria or the Lodge at Broadmead.
