Sylvia Rose Poeppelman, 90, formerly of Osgood, Ohio, died on Friday, July 5 at Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen. She was born on October 13, 1933 in St. Sebastian, Ohio to the late Sylvester and Loretta (Bruns) Schwieterman. She married Victor Poeppelman on September 29, 1954 and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2019.
She is survived by her children and their partners: Sueann Mazer and her husband in California, Jeff Poeppelman and Tina Ventrella of Huber Heights, Randy Poeppelman of Carthagena, Cindy and David Winkeljohn of Union Hall, Virginia and Angi Speelman and Jim MacKellar of Huntsville, Ohio. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters: Janet Brunswick of Coldwater and Mary Thelma Hemmelgarn of Portland, IN, as well as sisters-in-law: Nancy Schwieterman of Lakeview, Rosemary Poeppelman of Osgood, and Jean Ebert of Duck River, TN.
Preceding her in death were her daughter-in-law Betty Poeppelman, four brothers: Gerald Schwieterman, Eugene (Kathleen) Schwieterman, Avit Schwieterman and Vern (Kate) Schwieterman, as well in-laws: Charlie Brunswick, Caroline and Alfred Cron, Amelia Poeppelman, Luedna Poeppelman, Alfrieda and Norbert Puthoff, Romilda and Ray Prenger, Irene and Marcus Prenger, MaryAnn and Victor Baumer, Theresa and Wilber Will, Edwin Poeppelman, Frank Poeppelman Jr., and Julius Ebert.
Sylvia was a graduate of St. Henry High School and had training as a nurse. She was employed at various physician offices in the area, was a devoted farm wife, and in her younger years tended a large vegetable garden. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, and socializing.
Sylvia’s celebration of life will be held on July 26 at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles, Ohio. Viewing will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and the celebration of life service will start at 2:00 PM. Her ashes will later be interred alongside those of her husband at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Osgood.
