Ronald A. Nixon

Ron was born Feb 22, 1949 – the oldest of 5 children of William and Evelyn (Collins) Nixon. He is survived by a great big, amazing family including his three brothers – James Nixon (Sharon #2), Michael Nixon and David Nixon and his sister, Susan Agee (Doug) and sister-in-law Sharon Nixon #1. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers by marriage, Sandra Fike (Rocky d. 2018), Jean Hawkins (Ken), and Sherie Carpenter and by many nieces and nephews who cared for him deeply.

He was born in Greenville, OH and grew up in Versailles, OH. Though he spent much of his childhood in town, he was a farmer at heart. He loved to grow things – especially tomatoes and for some unfathomable reason, rhubarb.

Family was central in Ron’s life. He was generous with his compassion, understanding and his infinite supply of bear hugs. He married the love of his life and wife of almost 48 years Patricia on Dec 4, 1971. His three children: Christine Lee (Lawrence), Joseph Nixon (Jullia Rosdahl) and John Nixon (Rebecca), and his six grandchildren: Joshua and Alexander Lee, Brian and Katie Nixon and Tyler and Grant Nixon – were the joy of his life.

Ron spent his entire 37 year engineering career at Therm-o-Disc in Dayton and Mansfield, OH. He was a lead inventor on 7 patents covering electronic components found in many household appliances. Even outside of work, he loved to tinker with things and his mechanically intuitive brain and skilled hands could fix almost anything (or at least he would give it a very good try).

For almost 25 years, he was a leader of Boy Scout Troop 152 in Lexington, OH and was famous for telling tall tales around the fire. One of his proudest achievements was helping more than 50 scouts reach their Eagle rank – including both of his sons. In a true testament to how much they loved “Mr. Nixon”, he remains close to many of the scouts he guided throughout the years.

A service will be held on Monday July 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons officiating. Burial will follow in Beamsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home.
