Leo Joseph Theodore Lambert

His music on earth has come to an end, but the melody of his love for our family will be carried onward in our hearts. On 30th August, Leo Lambert of Vernon, BC, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord at the age of 90 years, with loving family at his side.

His memory is cherished by his loving wife of 65 years, Carmen (née Robinson), four children, Claire Vardy (Jim), Diane Fukumoto (Jeff), Ginette Thierry (Lindsay) and Ronald Lambert (Christine). Beloved grandpère to Kirk (Lindsay) and Kristen (Dave), Brent (Danalee), Emily (Michel), Dalen, Kelton, Chantelle, Colette (Adam) and Rémi as well as six great-grandchildren.

Leo was both a true gentleman who treated those he met with respect and dignity, and a “gentle man” who helped others with such kindness and goodness from his heart. Whatever task or activity he set forth on, it was always crafted with care and precision for the utmost best outcome, usually for the joy of others. He was an excellent provider for his family, working tirelessly at owning his own clothing business for nearly 40 years.

Leo cherished family. He loved to host big family gatherings whether it was at the little lakeside cabin or in the family home in St. Paul, Alberta. Countless “Christmas Réveillons” provided beautiful memories for immediate and extended family members. He was a very proud Papa and Grandpère and loved to hear the stories and achievements of his children and grandchildren. From playing pool to card games, Grandpère Leo was always up to a challenge with his grandchildren.

Leo’s love of music was always evident throughout his lifetime, from his early jazz band years in St. Paul, to his participation in the Vernon local Catholic church’s music ministry and local dance bands. If Dad was not in conversation or having a nap, he was likely whistling a tune, often Satin Doll or Misty.

In his last years, he continued to pray for all members of his family every night. We will forever carry your ways and melody in our hearts.

John 14: 1-3 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.”

To staff at Good Samaritan Heron Grove (HG) in Vernon, the family sincerely thank you for the tender care provided to Leo. To HG Recreation staff, who embraced Leo’s gift of music, including him to participate in many concerts and keeping him connected with family during the pandemic, we are deeply grateful. To Celia Foster, who offered our Dad hours of precious and dedicated companionship- thank you. Each of you filled Leo’s life with attention, care and love when family could not be with him. We acknowledge your sorrow and losses and commend you on the caring services you provide when families cannot.

The funeral will take place at a later date and is by invitation only due to virus protocols.
