Virginia Aileen Orr, 91, passed away April 30, 2013, in Ojai, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Santa Paula on March 8, 1922 to Olive May Hobson Young and John Lloyd Young. Virginia was the second of six children and loved her siblings dearly. She attended schools in Santa Paula, and for a short time in Missouri when her family moved there temporarily. Virginia resided in Santa Paula for over 85 years, having moved to Ojai in September of 2012 to live at The Gables of Ojai.
It was at Santa Paula High School that she met Edward Allen Orr. They married in 1941, and together with their family, settled down to grow the family agricultural business, known at that time as Orange Grove Farms. Virginia and Ed lived and farmed for many years in the Briggs district, and had many friends there. Virginia enjoyed going to the beach, bird watching, giggling with her sisters, sewing, traveling in their Airstream trailer with Ed, and baking (and eating) sweets. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Ventura.
Virginia was widowed in 1985, and for the last 28 years she looked forward to being reunited with the “love of her life.” She was beloved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and siblings. Virginia was a gentle lady in the fullest sense of the word. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
During the last part of her life, Virginia was fortunate to be given wonderful care by the staff at The Gables, the staff at the Continuing Care Center in Ojai, and Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Hospice Care. Her family is deeply grateful to all.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her loving sister, Thelma, and her brothers-in-law, Michael Larrabee, Jerome Golden, Marvin Alstot, and Sidney Patterson.
She is survived by her three children, Roger Orr (Cheryl), David Orr (Joanne) and Mindy Orr Maloon (Steve); six grandchildren, Sarah Wuthrich (Dan), Nathan Orr (Tami), Kristen Riley (Todd), Jason Orr, Griffin Maloon, and Maddie Maloon; eight great grandchildren; her remaining siblings, John Lloyd Young (Nancy), Barbara Alstot, Helen Patterson, and Margaret Larrabee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 6, 11:00 A.M at Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road, Santa Paula, with Mr. Dave Schulze officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses Hospice Care Unit.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.
