Thomas Cotner, age 94, slipped away peacefully at his home in Ventura on Tuesday, March 17, 2011 after a brief illness. He will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him. He was born on November 23, 1916 to Adrian Amazi and Fanny Belle Cotner in Greenfield, Missouri.
Thomas was prolific by trade. He farmed both his and his father-in-law’s farms and had grocery store of his own in MO. In 1956, he moved his family to Ventura County and worked as a trouble-shooter for McCullough Tool Company. He took his family back to MO for a brief time where he ran his own restaurant before returning to Ventura and working to retirement again for McCullough. Thomas also proudly served as a Past-Master of The Masons in his hometown of Greenfield Missouri.
After retirement, he worked tirelessly as a volunteer for the Ventura Avenue Senior Center and Food Share, Inc. He also collected generous amounts of goods for both Catholic Charities and The Salvation Army... He was a long-time deacon and volunteer gardener for the First Christian Church on Teloma Dr. in Ventura.
Besides his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Lee, his sons, Danny and David Cotner, his grandson, Shayne Donlon Cotner and his brothers: Homer and Ralph Cotner.
He is survived by his step-sister Joy (Bill) Hight, Tulsa, OK, former wife, Halma Louise Cotner, Verona, MO, his son Warren Thomas (Ruth Ann) Cotner, daughter, Elisa Louise (Rick) Eckard, Verona, MO, former daughter-in-law, Karla May (Lee A.) Leighton, Ventura, CA, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Cotner, Republic, MO, Granddaughters, Leighya Louise (Vicky Snyder) Cotner, Sacramento, CA, Cheyenne Autumn Latimer, MO, Audrey Renee and Lindsay Lee Cotner, Republic, MO , Grandsons, Troy Thomas Cotner, Ventura, CA, W. Trent (Jessica) Cotner, Port Hueneme, CA and Sam Eckard, MO, Step-Grandsons, Randy Lee (Christine) Leighton, Tualatin, OR an Ritchie A.
