Norman Ronald Pringle passed away at the Motion Picture Retirement Home in Calabasas, California on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day, 2012. He was 88 and is survived by his children; Linda Leland (John Leland) and Garry Pringle (Janice Green), grandchildren; Chris and Alyssa Leland and many nieces and nephews. His wife Elsie ( Morrell) passed away in 2009. They were happily married for 55 years.
Norm was born on December 9, 1923 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and later served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War 2. After the war, Norm began a career in radio and was a disc jockey at a number of Canadian radio stations in Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria. He moved to Hollywood in 1958 with his wife and first child. In Hollywood, Norm began his career as a sound technician and recording engineer. He worked at Western Records, General Music Corporation and retired from Warner Brothers in 1993. He was also a member of IATSE Local 695. During this time Norm also wrote a number of songs of his own. In 2008 he was inducted into the Victoria Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
His retirement years were spent gardening and maintaining a website devoted to his musical interests and causes related to veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Most of all he and his wife loved to entertain neighbors, former colleagues, family and friends in their San Fernando Valley home. After his wife died, he was honored to have been accepted into the Motion Picture Retirement home in Woodland Hills. He died from complications related to prostate cancer and a stroke which he had in December 2011.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in his name may be made to the Motion Picture Television Fund, 23388 Mulholland Drive, Woodland Hills CA.
