On Monday, July 11, 2011, after a long period of decline, Marjorie Lee Porter, 86, died peacefully in her home of more than 50 years in Oak View, surrounded by loving family. Marge was born December 29, 1924 in Oxnard and was a lifelong county resident.
She enjoyed many longtime friendships and could be found at least part of most days visiting with friends and neighbors in front of her home, a tradition that will be sorely missed by many. The "Bingo Queen" enjoyed a long "career" taking in more than her fair share of winnings around the county.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Elmer, her sister, Catherine Lloyd and her brother, Donald Williams. She is survived by her brother, Robert Williams, her devoted daughter, Linda Long (husband Robert), loving son, Daryl Dean "Deacon" (wife Susie), her eldest son, Tom (wife Judy), seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who will dearly miss their "GG."
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 15th, 12:00 P.M., at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
