Manuel was born in Saticoy, Calif. in 1941 to Manuel C. Ramirez and Petra Torres Ramirez. After graduating from Ventura High School and Ventura Community College he served in the United States Air Force for 4 years during the Vietnam War. He married Andrea Frances De La Torre in 1966 in Santa Barbara, Calif. and they moved to New Jersey while in the service, relocating back to Ventura in 1967.
Manuel worked for the City of Ventura as a Sanitation Maintenance Supervisor for over 30 years until he retired in 1997. He also worked as a Sheriff’s keeper for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Dept.
Manuel was a people person who never met a stranger; everyone loved “Manny”. He and his family spent many years 4-wheeling with the Ventura County Condor off road club. He participated with his sons in off road racing both in the US and Baja Calif. He was an avid fisherman and hunter for most of his life, always on the lookout for deer and wild pigs. After retiring he and his wife built a home on the beach in Baja California and enjoyed 15 wonderful years with many wonderful friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; daughter, Anne Marie (Ramirez) Fierbaugh; brother, John Ramirez; and sister, Chris (Ramirez) De La Torre.
In addition to his loving wife, Andrea, he is survived by three children: Cathy (James) Allgood, of Ft. Worth, TX; Phil (Kim) Ramirez, of Santa Paula, CA; Ed (Ginny) Ramirez, of Buellton, and daughter-in-law Deborah Ramirez, of Lompoc; grandchildren, Kendra, Andrew, Ashley, Sam, Alex, Charlie, Brooke, Ava, Lindsey and Aiden; brother, Tom (Michele) Ramirez of Oxnard,and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Menon and staff in addition to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses Assn. for their wonderful care. A special thanks to the many friends and family who visited and encouraged him during his long illness.
Viewing will be held Friday May 31st, 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary and eulogy, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Celebration of Mass will take place Saturday, June 1, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Saticoy, with burial following at Santa Paula Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.
