Lynn was born November 3, 1936, in Commerce, Texas the second daughter of Delaney and Johnie McCurdy. She was reared and attended public schools in Dallas. At age 10, Lynn gave her heart and life to Jesus Christ. She attended East Texas State College (Texas A&M University) in Commerce where she met her husband to be. A newly commissioned Naval Officer, Ens. Hinkle began his naval career and they moved to Athens, Georgia, the first of many ensuing moves and adventures.
Lynn was a gifted lady. She was creative with her hands and mind, and had a heart for service. This was her calling. They were blessed with two sons, Steven and John. These sons and their Dad were the primary beneficiaries of this loving service. Lynn’s focus and life were centered around her family. She complemented and supported her husband’s career to the fullest. She was actively involved in the Military Officers’ Wives’ Club at various duty stations, holding many leadership positions, using her gifts of service and creativity.
Lynn had a special place in her heart for God’s creatures, great and small. As avid cruisers, they were privileged to experience nature in many venues. Animals of the sea and land led to one of her passions, the support of the National Search Dog Foundation. As a tribute to Lynn, in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to this organization. There was nothing in her life that was more rewarding than the gift of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Gram” will be a source of inspiration for Jamie, Ryan, Jeffrey, Jillian, Will and Asher. In living they will have the example of how to put others ahead of self, how to use the gifts God gives in service, and most of all how to enjoy life. In death they will have the examples of perseverance in adversity, dependence on the love and support of family, and faith in a loving God.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Steve, (wife Julia), John (wife Kathy), four grandchildren, two great-grandsons and two sisters.
