Jason, born in the City of San Luis Obispo, CA. on March 2, 1973, died unexpectedly of congestive heart failure on February 9, 2015. Jason was the youngest son born to Linda and Ron Allen. In 1978, the Allen family moved to Ventura when Jason was five years old. He was actively involved in youth sports: Ventura Youth Basketball, Foothill Little League, AYSO, and Ventura Packer Football. Jason joined the County’s Scouting Program in 1982 and was a member of Cub Scout Pack 3176 of Poinsettia School. In 1984, he joined Boy Scout Troop 128 of College Methodist Church of Ventura; and advanced through the ranks to attain “Eagle Scout”, Scouting’s highest honor at the age of 14. Scouting’s Boy Scout Law provided Jason the moral foundation for his life’s journey, for which he tried to live by: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. As Jason matured, his interests changed to various forms of hockey; from “rollerblade” to “ice”. He also enjoyed camping in the Calif. Sierra’s and “trekking” up Mt. Whitney. However, always in the background was his love of the ocean and “surfing”. Jason graduated from Calif. State University - Chico in 1997, with a B.S. in Business. After graduation, Jason spent a year in Tokyo, Japan teaching Conversational English to Japanese businessmen. Upon returning to Ventura, he applied for a position at Trader Joe’s and was accepted. During his 15 years with Trader Joe’s, he worked in management and as a “crew” member. Jason will be remembered for his gregarious personality, infectious laugh and creative mind. He also could successfully debate both sides of an issue. Jason is survived by his parents, older brother Michael, an Aunt and Uncle, cousins, and many friends, whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Jason’s life will be held at the Charles Carroll Chapel, located at 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura at 1 pm on February 21st. Following the service, guests are invited to the Allen residence, at 211 N. Victoria Ave. for refreshments. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to the Surfrider Foundation – Ventura County Chapter, or the Boy Scouts of America.
