Graden “Vic” Emanuel, 91, passed away on Thanksgiving, November 25, 2010, of kidney failure. Vic was born in April of 1919, in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania to Manuel and Margaret Emanuel. In 1937, when he was 18 years old he joined the Marine Corp and was discharged after four years of service on August 24, 1941. He re-enlisted on December 22, 1941 after WWII started. After the war he graduated from USC with an accounting degree and went to work at Lockheed Aircraft in 1954. In 1982, after twenty-eight years he retired from his position as the manager of accounting and finance. In 1943 he married Wanda Reynolds and raised two daughters, Elaine and Sharon, in Downey, California. Vic and Wanda were married twenty-six years. He married Carolyn Labhart in 1970. They were married for 31 years and lived in Millington, New Jersey, for a short time before returning to Southern California. Vic moved to Ventura in 2006, to be closer to his daughter, Elaine.
Vic was a world traveler, both for business and pleasure. He was also a collector of beautiful art from his many journeys here and abroad as anyone who had been to his apartment knew.
Vic is survived by his daughters Elaine Edwards and Sharon Barela; grandchildren, Ashley and Joey Barela and previous wives, Wanda Beardslee and Carolyn Venturella.
We would like to thank all of his friends and the employees at Cypress Place Assisted Living for making his last years so enjoyable. Thanks also to Assisted Home Hospice for the great job they did carding for Vic in his final six weeks and to Dr. James Hornstein who came to his apartment to check on him after hours and on weekends.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. His urn will be buried at Riverside National Cemetery.
