Delpha G. Peake-Nystrom, at 90 years of age, passed peacefully on August 15, 2017. A 54 year resident of Ventura, Ca, she was born November 29, 1926 in Lamar Missouri, the daughter of the late Richard Bland and Fleta Gay (Kanatzer) Glass.
Delpha married Charles Leroy Peake in 1948 and they were happily married for 59 years until the time of his death. God blessed Delpha with the next love of her life in 2009 when she married Elsworth “Bud” Nystrom of Ventura, Ca.
Delpha began her illustrious career with Safeway Stores, Inc., in 1948. She rose through the ranks and became Safeway’s first female Store Manager of the tri-county area of Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, managing the Safeway Store in Camarillo. After retiring from Safeway she worked for several years for the Ventura Unified School District as an aid for special needs students.
Delpha was a member of the Red Hat Society and enthusiastically volunteered her time to many individuals and community events including reading to the kindergarten classes at E. P. Foster Elementary School. She loved traveling, dancing, music, gardening and spending her time with family and friends.
She is survived by her spouse Bud Nystrom, her four sons, Carlton “Bud” (Susan) Peake of Ventura, Ca; Steve (Tanya) Peake of Allen, Texas; Larry (Kandis) Peake of Bakersfield, Ca and Alan (Irma) Peake of Bakersfield, Ca. Her grandchildren, Jenna Hoffman of Trinidad, Ca; John Peake of Ventura, Ca; Sean Peake of Plano, Tx; Tanner Peake of Plano, Tx; Brandon Borjon of Bakersfield, Ca; Ash Borjon of Bakersfield, Ca; Breanne Peake of Santa Clarita, Ca; Amy Peake of Washington D.C.; Andrew Peake of Ventura, Ca; Kellie Peake of Washington D.C. and her great grandchildren Auri and Alex Borjon and Nicoli Peake. Sisters Maxine Foster of Lamar, Mo and Jane Small of Spokane, Wa.
Delpha was preceded in death by her first husband Charles Peake and her brother Richard.
Delpha was loved and respected by all those who knew her. She was enthusiastic about life and was an extraordinarily kind, compassionate and open hearted person who cherished her family dearly. Delpha was deeply loved by her family, friends and all who knew her, her smile will be missed everyday.
A celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at The Club House located at 1220 Johnson Drive, Ventura, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Please join us in celebrating Delpha’s life with a luau themed event.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association California Central Chapter.
