in Atlanta, Georgia, and was affectionately
called Judy. Judy was born to Sim Harris, who
was from the West Indies (Jamaica), and
Daisy Harris, who was from Atlanta, Georgia.
Early in Judy's life, the family relocated to New
York, where she attended public schools in the
city.
In the beginning of her career, Judy worked as a teacher's assistant.
As a result, she was able to fulfill her passion of working with children,
whom she diligently served for 15 years.
Judy was also a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Harlem,
one of the most prestigious churches in the city. In addition to
attending church services on Sundays, Judy also volunteered for
church programs, such as baking and serving meals.
She later married Robert Griffin, who preceded her in death. As a
result of that union, six children were born, including a child who
preceded her in death. Judy was all about family, whom she loved
dearly. According to her, it was important that her children behaved
well, were respectful to others, and well dressed.
Judy loved baseball and was a long time Mets fan.
She was active in fundraising by baking cakes and cupcakes for bake
sales, where the proceeds were used to purchase trophies and
jerseys to support her son's summer youth basketball tournaments.
With Judy?s permission, as a semi-host, many wonderful parties took
place over the years, where at times she may have been lovingly held
hostage in the back bedroom.
Judy leaves to cherish in her memory six children. Vertell, who
preceded her in death, Sealice, Bobbie, Stanley, Sherry and Mark.
