Louise grew up a tough, but sweet, farm girl in North West Alabama. On June 14, 1943, she married the love of her life, Lee Oliver. Due to Lee’s military service, the two of them moved to California. While living there during WWII, Louise worked as a welder, building battleships in the Richmond, California shipyards, and as a Secretary for an Insurance agency. For a short time after the war, Louise and Lee lived in California and Oregon; in 1952, they arrived in Vancouver, where they stayed. Over the years Louise worked at several places including Nabisco, Jantzen Knitting Mills and Washington State School for the Deaf.
Louise loved her grandkids and taught them crafts (which she thoroughly enjoyed doing), played games with them, cooked with them and recorded them singing songs and telling stories, then laughed with them as they listened to the recordings! She was a great seamstress and cook, turning out impressive food, in both quantity and flavor (especially desserts), in a kitchen just barely big enough to turn around in; her family always wondered how she could pull that off! She enjoyed gardening, then canning and freezing the products of her gardens, as well as from nearby fruit trees and berry vines.
Louise is survived by her children, Hollis Ron (Sue) Oliver and Linda (Dave) Langdon; grandchildren: Cyndi (Stuart) Reitz, Marcus (Katie) Oliver, David (Katie) Langdon, Bethany (Rob) Lee, Derek (Caryl) Langdon and Pearl Langdon; great grandchildren: Mason, Kiera, Finley, Genevieve and Joseph. Her husband, Lee Oliver; son, Gary Lee Oliver; and 8 siblings precede her in death.
A graveside funeral service will take place for Louise at 12:30 pm, Wednesday, February 18th at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR.
