Terrence Miller Gibbons

It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our dear dad Terrence Miller Gibbons. He passed away on December 4th, 2024, at the age of 89. Terry was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on August 5th, 1935. He moved to Vancouver at the age of 12. Terry went to Templeton Secondary and later studied at BCIT. He met his 2nd wife Kathleen Lloyd at work (Pacific Press) in his early 20’s. They married soon after and purchased their family home in Vancouver where he raised his family (son Leonard, daughter Lynn and son Allan). Terry is predeceased 37 years by Kathleen (Kathy). Not only did they share the same date of birth (Aug. 5th), but they also passed away on the same day (Dec. 4th). Terry is also predeceased by his parents Eunice and Joe as well as his siblings, Joanne and Jack.

Terry is survived by his 3 children; Len, Lynn (Gerry), Allan (Erin), 8 grandchildren (Kyle, Michael, Jodi, Christian, Kathleen, Duncan, Arlene & Jack), 4 great grandsons (Ryan, Adrian, Levi, & Coen), and numerous nieces, nephews and friends, including his ex-wife Judy and her daughter Kim.

He spent his career working for Pacific Press as an Electrician and as the Electrical Foreman. Terry moved to Richmond, BC in the early 1980’s where he lived out the rest of his life. He passed away in his home with his son Leonard by his side on the afternoon of December 4th. The day before his passing he enjoyed one of his old favourites: a chocolate dipped cone from Dairy Queen. As he ate, he looked at pictures and watched videos of his great grandsons playing football on his daughter Lynn’s phone. He was a very proud father and grandfather.

Terry loved spending time with his family. Every summer for many years he would drive his wife and children down to Twin Lakes, Idaho to visit his sister, brother in-law, nieces, nephews and close friends. Twin lakes became a home away from home. Twin lakes continues to be a summer staple for his daughter Lynn, and her family as they continue to travel and visit with family and close friends each summer.

Terry spent many years volunteering as a hockey coach for the Grandview Minor Hockey Association where he also played on a men’s team. He had a great love for hockey and in later years enjoyed watching his grandson Michael and granddaughter Jodi play in Richmond. His other great love was to hunt and fish with his lifelong friend Bob Espin. From flying in Bob’s plane to hunting in Prince George and the Princeton area, the two shared many adventures together over the years. The pair’s final hunt together took place up in the mountains beside Allison Lake in Princeton, B.C. Terry and Bob also made time for many fishing trips to various lakes with their favorite being Salmon fishing in Ucluelet. The stories of their adventures together were endless.

Terry loved to travel with friends and took many trips to Hawaii and Mexico. His favourite place to visit was Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Terry spent countless days out at Mismaloya Beach with a local fisherman, who quickly became a good friend, Chipol, and his family.

Terry was also an avid dart player and belonged to the 100 Club dart league. Terry loved to play cards, sing, and play the guitar. There were many nights spent around a campfire with Terry and Kathy playing the guitars and signing with family and friends. Evenings of cards in their Vancouver home usually ended up at the piano with singalongs and guitar playing. Terry was remarried to Judy Crawford in the early 1990's. He loved to socialize and entertain so he would often bring friends & family together to their home in Richmond for parties and dinners. Terry loved a good steak and was a great cook so if you were invited for dinner, you would often find a big T-Bone filling your plate.

A memorial service will be held on January 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC. A reception will take place from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the same venue.
