Sarah Michelle Neault passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on October 31, 2023 in Vancouver, BC. Born in Cranbrook, BC, on August 25, 1979, Sarah lived her all-too-short life fully, unapologetically, and on her own terms. A single Mom, an architect, a fierce warrior, Sarah was an advocate for peace for the homeless, for her community, and for all injustice. Sarah completed her education in architecture at the University of Waterloo and throughout her career has loved collaborating with people who would eventually use the spaces she was helping to create. Her favourite projects were those contributing to making the world a better place.
Predeceased by her father, Gerald Neault; her grandparents; and her Uncle Dan (Parker); Sarah is survived by the son she adored, Solomon; her lifelong friend, Alex and partner, Cassy; her mother, Roberta and Roberta’s husband, Bill Borgen; her sister, Lisa Patterson and brother-in-law, Mike, and their children, Alicia, Hannah, Carmen, and Eli; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members; her Mau Dan community family; colleagues at Urban Arts Architecture; and countless amazing friends.
We would like to thank the amazing medical teams at St. Paul’s Emergency and VGH’s Cardiac Surgery ICU for going above and beyond, providing such extraordinary care with compassion, wisdom, and grace. We will be forever grateful to them.
We invite you to click on “Share a Memory” below, where we hope to capture the rich texture, multi-faceted dimensions, and diverse perspectives of Sarah’s life and all your different experiences with her, co-creating something that Solomon can turn to again and again to better understand the mother he lost far too soon. We invite you to share your stories, descriptive words, what you’ve learned from Sarah, and anything else that you think will help Solomon in future years really get to know the Sarah that you’ve shared a piece of your life with.
We also invite you to join us in a Celebration of Sarah’s Life. It will be an informal, drop-in “come and go” event at a beautiful facility that Sarah helped to build:
When: Monday, November 13th 1 – 3 PM
Where: Museum and Archives of North Vancouver, 115 West Esplanade, North Vancouver
In lieu of flowers, Sarah’s friends and family have identified the following options for donations:
