Born in Hong Kong, Dad graduated from Technical College and was employed as a laboratory technician before immigrating with his family to Vancouver in 1972 to seek better opportunities for his children. He worked as a lab technician at the University of British Columbia’s Department of Chemistry until his retirement after more than 25 years of service.
Dad was a devoted and good-natured father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He practiced tai chi for forty years, had an unwavering love for Volkswagen beetles and a voracious appetite for knowledge. He loved to read as evidenced by his large book collection and loved to catch up on the daily news. He had a deep love for his two cherished grandsons. His most precious times were spent at visits and family reunions with his siblings and extended family.
Dad leaves Kitty Kwai-King, his loving wife of 58 years; daughters Amy (Pat) and Bonnie (Greg); grandsons William and Conor; his sister Amy, brothers Amos (Anna) and Stephen (Flora), sister-in-law Selina; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Keith and brother-in-law David.
Heartfelt thanks for all the care and compassion shown to Dad through his medical journey especially from the staff of Kopernik Lodge.
The family will hold a private celebration of life memorial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the M. Kopernik Foundation or the Vancouver SPCA.
