On October 28th, 2019 in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Craig Peter Kulyk passed away at the age of 37. He is survived by his partner, Joel Harnest, his sister Corrine (Todd) and nephew Emmett. Craig was predeceased by his parents, Lynn and Peter Kulyk.
Craig was born in Winnipeg on January 7th, 1982, graduating from the University of Manitoba (Bachelor of Commerce, Honours). Craig lived a life of adventure, travelling across North America and Asia and living in Korea teaching English and playing Ultimate Frisbee. Upon returning to Canada, Craig settled in Vancouver and met his partner Joel. Over 6 years together, they camped and road tripped across BC and the Pacific Northwest, learned about love, raised two cats, and always made time for games. Craig and Joel became well-known for hosting parties to bring people together and celebrate their sense of community. Practicing meditation became an important and daily ritual for Craig, and he was most grateful in the great outdoors and under the stars.
Craig was known to his family as the guy with the video camera at every family function. He loved and was loved by his cousins, aunts and uncles and always put a smile on everyone's face with his dance moves, his funny stories or just being Craig. He loved his nephew Emmett and Emmett loved Craig. They bonded over their shared love of hockey, silly noises and Craig's cats.
Craig will be remembered for connecting and building community everywhere he went, an entrepreneurial spirit, his generous compassion and insatiable curiousity. As a storyteller, a listener, and a sensitive soul. A lover, and never a fighter. As said by Craig, "it was a wild ride."
A Celebration of Craig's Life will be held on Sunday, November 10th at the Stanley Park Pavilion ~ Doors open at 1:00 pm, with remarks to start at 2:00 pm.
